Liverpool’s players will be expected to player like there’s ‘no tomorrow’ under Jurgen Klopp

Despite having only been in the job since Thursday the new Liverpool manager has already given fans more hope and excitement (not to mention quotable lines!) than we’ve had in years but the hard work starts when those players not on international duty undergo Jurgen’s first training session and he gets the measure of some of the fringe players.

But with the likes of Lucas Leiva, Daniel Sturridge and Philippe Coutinho also having not been called away, Klopp has a good selection of his first team to work with too and every member of the squad is going to have to work hard to impress if his famous double training sessions are implemented, along with the notorious ‘Gegenpressing’ his Dortmund side put into such good effect.

And it seems like we may well be seeing some form of that high-octane, intense pressing, counter-attacking game Klopp is so well known for. At least if Rafa Honigstein is to be believed.

The German journalist believes that the new Reds boss will demand a lot of his players but one game at a time. Speaking to LFCTV, Honigstein said: “He doesn’t do half measures, he’s all about all or nothing.

“He will stress again to his players, ‘do not think about the next game only think about this game’, play as if there’s no tomorrow.

“He’s not really someone who thinks, ‘where will I be in two years time?’, ‘where will I be at the end of the season?’, he will just try to focus on the matter at hand and trying to perform every single game.

“That’s something that worked really well at Dortmund; when they were running away with the league and everyone was getting really nervous, he managed to keep calm and say ‘this is just another game, think about the next game, don’t think about the table’.

“[He wants them] to just think about performing – if you perform to your ability the result will come as a consequence.”

Fitness has been an issue within the Liverpool squad for the past few years, with players tiring toward the end of games and injuries re-occurring with worrying regularity but that is something that Klopp can hopefully put an end too, as his players will no doubt be expected to be fit enough to play at 100% throughout the full 90 minutes every week.

One thing that is for certain is that, under Jurgen, Liverpool are going to become an exciting team to watch again and there is enough talent in the current squad for us to start seeing his ideas being implemented successfully very quickly.
