Our new manager has barely been in the job a few days but the rumour mill has cranked up to full speed, even with almost three months to go until the next transfer window opens.

But the rumours in the past 24 hours are much more interesting than we’ve had for a while, with new goalkeepers linked, the 18 year old Porto captain and one of the deadliest strikers in Europe reportedly keen to move on in the summer.

Starting at the back, and there are reports today that Jurgen is looking at replacing Simon Mignolet in the summer, according to Calcio Mercato. The German is rumoured to be a keen admirer of two young number ones from his previous league, with Bernd Leno and Loris Karius from Leverkusen and Mainz respectively.

The Mainz number one, Karius, has played barely 60-odd games for the club but is highly thought of in Germany and is just 22. He has been capped at all levels and would no doubt love to follow Klopp to the country where he started his career with Manchester City.

Whilst Leno is slightly further along in his career, having been the Leverkusen number one since 2011 and capped 14 times by the German U21s team. He is widely considered as the successor to Manuel Neuer in the German national team but, at 23, has yet to be capped. He would represent something of an improvement on Mignolet but would cost considerably more than the Mainz keeper.

Elsewhere, and reports last night claimed that Liverpool had all but tied up a deal for Porto star Ruben Neves. Anybody who’s played Football Manager (because isn’t that where we all get our football background?) will know how good the 18 year old is believed to be. But anybody who has ever stepped outside of the Premier League comfort zone will have seen the talented midfielder playing Champions League football with aplomb.

The Portuguese star has played barely over 40 games for the club but is already rated in the 25-30 million Euro bracket, with all of Europe’s top clubs chasing him. Quite where the rumours stem from is hard to say, so all this is at the moment is a ‘rumour’ but it’s certainly a more interesting one than we’ve had for a while.

And finally, perhaps the most exciting of all the weekend rumours: Lewandowski to Anfield. Yes, that’s right, Jurgen Klopp has indicated that he’d like to bring his former Dortmund star striker to Liverpool next summer according to the Sunday Mirror.

The Polish striker has been one of the most prolific goalscorers at the top level in European football since 2011, scoring 144 goals in his last 246 games but, despite scoring a goal a game last season for Bayern Munich, is reportedly open to a move in the summer, with his agent supposedly claiming he doesn’t see the player’s future at Bayern.

And the paper reports that Klopp wouldn’t hesitate to move for the Polish star if there is any indication that he’d welcome a move to Anfield.

So, there you have it: several top quality players being linked with LFC. Shall we just call this the ‘Klopp effect’?
