According to Redknapp, Ancelotti was actually LFC’s first choice man

Ah, it’s all going too well isn’t it? The fans are still sitting firmly on cloud nine, the press are still in love with our new, cool, fashionable and, most importantly, successful manager so somebody had to try and throw a spanner in the works.

That that person is Harry Redknapp shouldn’t really come as a surprise, considering he is currently out of work and was backing good old British manager Brendan Rodgers.

Today Redknapp has claimed that Jurgen Klopp wasn’t Liverpool’s first choice. According to quotes from Redknapp, the former Spurs manager has ‘sources’ who have told him that Liverpool actually wanted Ancelotti but he wasn’t interested.

Speaking to talkSport, Redknapp said: “I have heard from good sources that he [Ancelotti] was offered the Liverpool job.

“I don’t think [he wanted it]. They spoke to him at some stage.”

Quite where or what these sources are, is open to debate. No doubt Redknapp does still have ‘sources’ in top level football but it’s doubtful that anybody who knows the ins and outs of Liverpool’s recruitment process would pass such sensitive information to a man known more for relegation battles than top level success.

Apart from anything else, it was reported throughout last week that Liverpool had been in contact with both men but had Klopp as first choice, having previously approached him twice before.

Despite this, Redknapp continued: “I do like the look of Klopp, he’s a good appointment. He’s looks bright, with great enthusiasm and he looks like he could be a really good addition to the Premier League. I’m looking forward to watching Liverpool play over the next few years.

“Ancelotti’s had a little break from the football scene already and obviously feels he’s ready to come back in again. It’s got to be a big club for him, he’s a manager of Champions League clubs so he’s not going to take any job.

“There are only five or six jobs he could take in the Premier League, so it’s very interesting to see what he’s got in mind.”

So, there you have it: Carlo Ancelotti didn’t want the Liverpool job because we’re not a ‘Champions League club’. But considering only four teams can qualify for the Champions League, it’d be interesting to see which those ‘five or six’ clubs are that Redknapp is referring to.

As for whether Liverpool were turned down by Ancelotti at all, is open to debate. However, considering the club reportedly had no contact with either the Italian or Jurgen Klopp prior to Rodgers’ sacking, it would mean the club would have to have moved very fast to first approach Ancelotti, to then go ahead and appoint Klopp by Thursday afternoon of the same week.

But who are we to argue with Harry’s ‘sources’?

What do you make of Redknapp’s quotes?

What do you expect from ‘Dodgy’ ? Praise ? He’s got it wrong though. Actually the call first went out to Batman. Unfortunately it was during the day and as you probably know all bats are asleep by then! The Flash was next on the list but he was a little too quick off the mark and nobody noticed his application.

I used to quite like Redknapp, but over the past few years he’s progressed into an overly-opinionated, cantankerous misanthrope, with as much ‘insider’ information as to FSG’s negotiations as Maeve Binchy has.

to be fair to ‘old arry’ he has a soft spot for Spurs as they are one of the few clubs that he hasn’t managed to bankrupt. Just trying to get into Klopps head! idiot. Like my little miniature snaucher trying to worry a lion.

Harry should know Carlos Anceloti does not suit Liverpool Fc, because there is budget limit to spend at Liverpool and should bring in young players, train them well to form a successful Squad. He doesn’t fit this bill therefore not approached, that the end of story – Let him keep his wild imagination himself
