Former Liverpool FC manager, Brendan Rodger, has today released a statement following his sacking from the club. The 42 year old was Liverpool manager for just over three years, clocking up a total of 166 games in charge with a win ratio of 50%.

His statement, released via the League Managers Association website: “I am, of course, incredibly disappointed to be leaving Liverpool Football Club. It has been both an honour and a privilege to manage one of the game’s great clubs for the last three years.

“I have worked every day to represent the club to the best of my ability, to develop both individual players and a team that the club’s magnificent fans can be proud of. There have been some very memorable moments during my time at Liverpool and I would like to thank all of the players for their hard work and commitment. The current squad is one in transition, but they have some real talent and are showing a strong sense of togetherness. I expect to see them continue to grow and develop over the coming weeks and I wish them and my successor well for the rest of the season.

“Liverpool has a magnificent football heritage and I have nothing but respect and admiration for the history, tradition and values that make the city and the club so exceptional. As well as my players, I would like to thank everyone connected with the club; Fenway Sports Group, the Liverpool Directors, in particular Ian Ayre, my coaching staff, the staff throughout the club, the volunteers, the Academy staff and its young players and of course the amazing Liverpool fans for their unwavering support, passion and dedication which has made my time at the club so special.

“Finally, I would like to give a special mention to John W. Henry, Tom Werner and Mike Gordon. They gave me this great opportunity and even though we will no longer be working together I am sure our relationship and friendship will continue into the future.”

It many ways, it’s heartening to see that Rodgers harbours no hard feelings toward the club, the fans or Fenway Sports Group for their decision and we will all wish Brendan well in his future career.

Of course, none of us will forget that, for one brief season, we got some of our pride back and witnessed some of the most breath-taking attacking football ever produced by a Liverpool side. Had we won the Premier League that season, who knows, things may have turned out differently. But, as it is, both parties will go their separate ways and look to the future.

All the luck in your future Brendan, and thanks for the memories.

I’m feeling a little sorry for Rodgers now but it’s a harsh game and being very honest I never believed he would turn us into a regular top 4 team . I do feel he was lucky to inherit Saurez and I very much doubt we would of finished second without him that season . I’m a big believer in playing 2 strikers upfront which we’ve not seen too much of since Saurez departure and the defensive tactics need to be assessed most definitely too . Let’s hope our next manager does a great job and maybe if we’re lucky we might even be able to attract the odd top established super star
