Brendan Rodgers claims he doesn’t feel his position is under pressure ahead of the Merseyside derby

After coming out fighting after a rare Premier League win at the weekend Brendan Rodgers went on to target those he felt were unfairly attacking his position.

But following another turgid, lame display from Liverpool last night Rodgers again finds himself coming under huge pressure from Liverpool fans and media. However, he doesn’t feel that his position is under threat at present.

Speaking ahead of the derby on Sunday, via BBC Sport, Rodgers said: “I’ll always work the best I can. But I’m not seeking any reassurances.

“It’s not something I’m worried about.”

Considering the rumours over the past few weeks it would seem that there may be grounds for Rodgers to be concerned, particularly after Liverpool’s latest effort to break down a much weaker side.

But the Northern Irishman appears confident that his team will actually turn up for the derby, and claimed that there isn’t much between the two teams.

He continued:  “Everton have done well. They are a point ahead of us. They’ve had a good start and we’ve had a disaster.

“We are back into that flow of creating chances.

“We go to Everton with confidence.

“There is no greater pressure than what I’ve had before. We are five points off the top. The players and I are very calm.”

With Liverpool struggling badly for goals, Daniel Sturridge apart, and leaking goals like there’s no tomorrow, it’s concerning that the Reds will enter the match as “underdogs”, regardless of what the Everton manager may have claimed today.

But his point about how much Liverpool have spent meaning we should be favourites is one that Rodgers won’t have appreciated and could well only add to the pressure if the team fail to get a positive result on Sunday.

Can Rodgers turn things around, or is Everton the last chance saloon for the manager? Let us know your thoughts below.
