The future of Brendan Rodgers has been debated ever since the end of last season, when Liverpool’s unbeaten run and top four hopes came crashing down.

But the debate is finally over: Brendan Rodgers has been sacked with immediate effect as Liverpool manager.

Numerous defeats to Manchester United, Arsenal, Hull City, Crystal Palace and then the horrific 6-1 defeat to Stoke City ended Liverpool’s season on a dreadful note.

Fenway Sports Group decided to give the Northern Irishman more time and backed the manager heavily in the summer with big money signings such as Christian Benteke and Roberto Firmino.

Results, rather than performances, started well with wins against Stoke City and Bournemouth. However, Liverpool have gone downhill ever since, and have struggled desperately against the likes of Carlisle United and FC Sion at Anfield.

Add in all the other disappointing results, beginning with a 3-0 defeat at home to West Ham United, and Rodgers’ future has intensified to such an extent that a poor 1-1 draw in the Merseyside derby was the final straw for Rodgers. All attention will now turn to who will replace him at the helm.

With that in mind, here are five managers who could succeed Rodgers at Liverpool.
