Allen believes he can stake his claim under Jurgen Klopp

Before Jurgen Klopp had even officially signed on the dotted line as the new Liverpool manager, the future of Brendan Rodgers favourite Joe Allen was under question.

The 25 year old was Rodgers’ first signing at Liverpool and, despite Allen struggling to truly find a place for himself in the first team, Rodgers tried everything he could to shoehorn the Welshman into his side. Sadly for Allen, this prompted much anger from a number of fans and many believe that he has no place under Klopp, who will demand a much higher-paced, high aggression game from his players.

But the midfielder himself has no concerns about whether he has a future under Klopp, believing that he can find a place in the 48 year old’s plans. Speaking to the Liverpool Echo, Allen said: “When a manager leaves a club everything is up in the air for the players. You have to wait to see who comes in next, what sort of style he plays and if there’s a place for you in his plans.

“It’s almost like the reset button has been pressed for everyone at the club and we’ve got a clean slate to re-focus and try to impress him so we can be part of his plans.

“Everyone has been impressed with the new manager’s ideas and approach. His passion is very obvious and that is something we as players as going to feed off.”

Allen has shown brief moments of quality of the years, having the odd good game, peppered in amongst half a dozen average games, or those where he seems to just let the moment pass him by. But now that Rodgers has gone, Allen believes it is a fresh start for all of the players.

Do you believe there’s a place for Allen at Anfield now that Rodgers has gone, or is he surplus to requirements?
