With Liverpool looking at the prospect of 2-3 games per week up until Christmas, and potentially just as many from the beginning of January on-wards, the current squad would be stretched thin enough as it is.

But when you factor in the sheer amount of injuries the Reds have endured this season, you’re looking at a squad that may have to sacrifice certain competitions in favour of others.

However, Liverpool legend and Sky Sports pundit, Jamie Carragher, doesn’t think that we’ll be seeing much transfer activity at Anfield in January.

Speaking to the Evening Standard, Carragher said: “Eventually, he will make big changes but I think in January it’s always difficult to make those kinds of changes.

“Now and again you see signings coming in January who make a big difference – Luis Suarez was huge for Liverpool. Daniel Agger came in January too and he did really well, but it’s not normally a time when you get the best players on offer.

“I imagine the changes he [Klopp] will look to make and want to implement will come more in the summer.

“At present the team and the squad isn’t quite good enough to be where everyone wants Liverpool to be and that’s the whole point why you bring a new manager in.”

On one thing Carragher is spot on: the current squad simply isn’t good enough. There are clearly talented players in there but to truly reach the next level Liverpool will need some major signings.

So, in terms of massive changes, Jamie may be right. But it would be a surprise if Klopp didn’t have at least one or two players lined up for a move in January. Whether they prove to be major signings though, remains to be seen.

Do you agree with Carragher, or do you think Liverpool should make some big moves in January?
