Could the former Liverpool star return to Anfield next summer?

It’s that time of year again, when the question ‘will Xabi Alonso be returning to Anfield’ is asked. Now, usually, the answer is a very easy one: no. However, considering that Tuttomercatoweb are reporting that Alonso will not be renewing his contract at Bayern Munich and could be returning to these shores, the proposition is a much more likely one.

Of course, at this stage nothing is set in stone. Alonso may well be inclined to not renew his contract at the club, but considering he has already played in 15 of Bayern’s matches this season, it is not hard to imagine that the club would offer the midfielder a new contract over the next few months, even if only a year.

At 33 years of age, Alonso is certainly isn’t getting any younger. But he is also a player that has never relied on pace or stamina, so should find no problem in continuing at a good level for a couple more years to come, at least.

Whether that be at Bayern or Liverpool (or anywhere else) remains to be seen, but if there is any chance the former Reds favourite will return to Anfield, he will be welcomed back with open arms.

Do you think there is any chance Alonso could return and, if so, could he still do a job? Let us know your thoughts below.

I would love Alonso to return to Liverpool but I don’t think it is likely I think he will sign another contract with Bayern Msybe the fact that we now have Klopp as manager it might just tempt him We will wait and see
