After scoring the winner on the opening day of the season at Stoke City, Philippe Coutinho’s form took an alarming dip and saw him really struggle for goals and assists in the preceding run of matches.

Even this morning at Chelsea, the 23 year old attacking midfielder was in the middle of a pretty average performance all-round, stepping up on two separate occasions to pull out two moments of typical Coutinho magic.

But the midfielder is well aware of his recent poor form, having no doubt been close to being subbed even today, and dedicated his goals to the fans that have continued to support him throughout his poor patch.

Speaking to the Liverpool Echo following the match, Coutinho said: “I am so happy to score those goals.

“It had been a long time since I last scored. I haven’t been playing so well but I knew I just had to keep working and things would change for me. That’s what I did.”

It’s been a touch few weeks for the Brazilian, no doubt but Klopp, like the fans, clearly knows that Coutinho could be pivotal to anything he’s trying to achieve at Anfield. And while he has a knack of scoring amazing goals, he must know that he needs to start chipping in on a more regular basis, just as Liverpool can’t expect the same feat from him every week.

He continued: “I kept going and I knew that good things would come. Hopefully I can go on to score many more goals. I’m most happy about the fact I was able to help the team to get the three points.

“The support we got from the fans throughout the game was amazing. They are always there supporting us and we wanted to give something back. My goals and this win is for them.”

It is clear that the arrival of Jurgen has been a massive boost to many players in the current squad, and the hope now is that Klopp can do for Coutinho what he has clearly done for the likes of Skrtel, Sakho, Lucas, amongst others.
