The Liverpool number one has come in for more criticism from Bruce Grobbelaar

It’s been a topic of conversation amongst Reds for a few years now, and it looks like not going away anytime soon: should Liverpool replace Simon Mignolet?

We’ve all surely had the discussion, noting the Belgian stopper’s merits, as well as his many flaws. However, like many of his team mates, Mignolet has shown signs of progression since Klopp joined.

But Liverpool legend and former goalkeeping star, Bruce Grobbelaar, claims that Jurgen Klopp will look to sell Mignolet when the opportunity arises and replace him. The 58 year old has reportedly been asked by the club to stop criticising the Liverpool number one in the past, but is adamant with his latest claims.

Speaking to talkSport, Grobbelaar said: “I’ve had my criticism of him for two or three years, I even got pulled in and asked not to criticise him so openly.

“I’ve said that he is a goalkeeper who is a great shotstopper, but he is not the overall package. The overall package is good with your feet and coming out and commanding your area.

“I’ve got a goalkeeper in Canada, a 24-year-old, who does this better than Mignolet does and is just as good of a shotstopper. He is more of a package than Mignolet is.”

Despite his recent improvements though, the former Liverpool ‘keeper believes that Klopp will look to bring in a top class replacement for Mignolet, particularly with Liverpool having been linked with the likes of Marc-André ter Stegen.

He continued: “I think he is looking at it.. There are a couple of goalkeepers in the German league that he is looking at so I can see that might be one of his first signings.”

Do you agree with Grobbelaar where Mignolet is concerned? Let us know your thoughts below.

Mignolet is crap, end of story.

mignolet has improved tremendously unlike rodger’s era and i think klopp should give him a chance to prove himself.

Give him a chance to prove himself under Klopp. He’s still young and can be a real package. But I either agree, LFC need to sign top class GK to challenge or even replace Mig place. At least Mig knows that to play in LFC he needs to work real hard and consistent.

Grobelaar is talking rubbish, as a lot of our ex players do. Some of them can be quite embarrassing! Is he trying to sell us his Canadian chap.? Like he was the complete package himself.

sign jack butland. it’s so obvious. but as usual lfc ignore the bleedin’ obvious. dele alli was obvious but we didn’t sign him. spent 16m on that clown balotelli instead

I think Simon should be appreciated and encouraged for what he is good at… Remember Valdez and the Brazilian Ceasar (great keepers but I bet most of you don’t remember they still exist) begovic, Mignolet, coirtous. This sort of thing happens when a player swaps Jersey. #BecarefulwhatUwish4
