There’ll be no Anfield return for Gerrard under Jurgen Klopp

While Brendan Rodgers was Liverpool manager, there was a chance that Liverpool fans would be seeing Steven Gerrard again once the MLS season came to a close, such was the former manager’s relationship with the midfielder.

But when the 42 year old was removed from his position and replaced by Jurgen Klopp, the chances of the legendary former captain returning on loan during the close season looked much less likely to happen.

And today, Jurgen has confirmed that the LA Galaxy star won’t be returning to Anfield as a player, nor as a coach, it would seem; something many fans had been pining for since the German took charge.

Speaking at his pre-Rubin Kazan press conference (via Liverpoolfc.com), Klopp said: “I can say I have had contact with Stevie.

“We’ve had one phone call and a few messages. Of course, I said the door is always open. Stevie is a legend and it’s clear that if he is here in Liverpool and is young enough and healthy enough to want to train for the next season in LA, then absolutely no problem.

“That’s clear, but nothing else. He didn’t ask and I don’t have to think about this. He is an LFC legend and our doors are always open.”

The former Reds star had himself expressed his intention to return to Liverpool one day, whilst many fans felt that Gerrard should return as a coach under Klopp, with a view to one day becoming the LFC manager.

The current Liverpool manager, as always, has emphatically poured cold water on any chances of Stevie coming back in any capacity other than training with the current squad.

How do you feel about what Jurgen has said today; do you think Gerrard should have returned on loan in January? Let us know your thoughts below and check out this list of Australian bookmakers for the latest Stevie G bets.

Dream off mate will you? As soon as Liverpool lose a couple of games fans like you will be clamouring to ” give Stevie the job”. I guarantee that would be a disaster, like making the waitress in a restaurant the Head Chef !!! Stop looking back, look forward!

The fact that Steven Gerrard did not ask made the decision easier for Klopp. I think Liverpool still needs him present and helping the team somewhere and somehow. No matter whether he would be on the pitch, the touch line or on the bench, this will impact on the players’ morale and will make the team stronger. If I was Klopp, I would have sieze the opportunity to play Gerrard in a maestro position, which actually the team does not have, and to inspire young players like Couthino, Ibe and Firmino.

Nonsense! Didi Hamman is correct, Stevie should not be allowed near Melwood as it could undermine the new Liverpool manager. Stevie WAS a Liverpool great but his playing days at the top level are gone, that was obvious last season and he ain’t exactly tearing up trees for the Galaxy this season. As for joining Liverpool as a coach….why on earth does that make any sense what so ever? We are all thrilled to have Klopp as our manager and he ain’t a Liverpool legend! We are glad to have him cos he’s proven to have great skills as a Manager, Gerrard, Fowler, Carragher, Mcmanaman, Jamie Redknap there’s a whole host of Liverpool “Legends” who have no proven skills to manage our great club. Knock it off “Dreamers”!

cently wrote an article before the Chelsea game on GERRARD AND HIS PERCIEVED OBSESSION OF BEATING EVERY ACHIEVEMENT BY KENNY DAGLISH. I mentioned the fact that now things seems to be turning around, Stevie would like to be part of it and that would be LFC down fall if we start buying into such fantasies.

As reality has thought us, great players don’t always make good coaches. i:e Diego Maradonna. Legend he is, but manager (which he wants) he is not. I also repeat he should decide against training with the team. Hopefully, the issues between Rafa nd DAGLISH won’t repeat itself.
