Although Liverpool might have secured their fifth win in nine games under Jurgen Klopp on Thursday night, there was not as much of the usual fight and pressing on display as we’ve come to expect in the past eight weeks.

Liverpool eventually rode out a tricky game against Bordeaux with a barely deserved three points in the Europa League group, guaranteeing the team progression into the knockout stages but the manager will still have concerns over the nervy performance from his players.

Which is no doubt why he’s called for a ‘fighting performance’ against Swansea at Anfield today; something he will be expecting to see from Daniel Sturridge in particular who has come in for criticism from many this week.

A win could place Liverpool as high as fifth and, depending on how other results go, could see Klopp’s men move to within a point of Spurs, with the top of the table within touching distance.

Writing in his programme notes ahead of the game, Klopp said: “We have to be at our very best if we want to get another good result and improve our league position,” says Klopp.

“This is an extremely tough game for us and the players are aware of what they need to do. This competition is so competitive and Swansea have proved this season they can beat any team in this league.

“I would like to thank the supporters for their brilliant backing on Thursday night; the atmosphere and noise was very good and helped the players.

“I hope we can produce another fighting performance that makes you proud of this team.”

Despite having achieved some impressive results in the first month of the season, Swansea have won just once since August and Liverpool will be confident of gaining the three points. But as the manager says, the Swans have had some great results this season and have shown many times that they’re capable of stepping up their game in the big ones.

Can the Reds take all three points today? Let us know your thoughts on the game ahead below.
