After the showing at the Etihad on Saturday evening, as Liverpool thumped champions elect, Manchester City, you’d think Liverpool would be fairly content with the current attacking options. Particularly considering City were put to the sword with the talents of Christian Benteke and Daniel Sturridge on the bench. Not to mention Danny Ings still to return toward the end of the season.
But if rumours are to be believed the club are keen to take West Ham’s loan star, Manuel Lanzini, from his parent club Al-Jazira at the end of the season.
The Argentine has impressed in the first 4 months of the season at Upton Park, scoring 4 goals with 2 assist. The 23 year old supposedly has an ‘unbreakable’ agreement to sign for West Ham permanently, should they opt to but has spoken proudly of Liverpool’s interest.
Speaking over the weekend (via the Independent), Lanzini said: “I heard the president say that the club wants me to stay. I am fine here.
“It’s an absolute honour that a team like Liverpool has put an eye on me, but at moment I am focused on the match against Tottenham. It’s a good team to play against.”
The midfielder scored again today against Spurs, a late consolation for West Ham but it appears that, despite the club’s desires, Lanzini may be destined for a bigger club in the near future.
