Skrtel was in great form at both ends yesterday

If you’d watched the highlights of Liverpool’s 4-1 win over Man City on Match of the Day last night, you’d be forgiven for thinking the home side were the equal of Jurgen Klopp’s men and that the Reds just took their chances.

If you’d listened to or read some of the post-match comments from pundits and ex-players alike, you’d also be forgiven for believing that Liverpool simply benefited from City having a rare off day and took advantage.

You’ll have to really try if you want to find out that, in actual fact, City played badly because Liverpool’s plan worked to perfection and the 11 players in Red simply didn’t let Pellegrini’s boys settle for a second.

And in the opinion of the man that scored the Reds’ fourth, Jurgen’s men thoroughly deserved their win. Speaking to Liverpoolfc.com, Skrtel said: “The feelings are great because it’s not every day you come to Manchester City and you win 4-1.

“Also the performance, especially in the first half, was top class – we scored three but we could have scored more.

“Second half wasn’t easy because they scored a goal and came back into the game but we defended well and I think we absolutely deserved the three points.”

The Reds devastated City in the first 32 minutes, scoring two wonderful goals and forcing Mangala to turn into his own net after some wonderful build up play between Philippe Coutinho and Roberto Firmino.

And Skrtel rounded off a less frantic second half, with a superb striker from the edge of the box after Benteke caused City’s defenders into a panicked clearance.

The Slovak continued: “It’s a great feeling, it’s always good when you score a goal and help the team.

“I think the last goal I scored was December last year [against Arsenal] so it’s a long time.

“But the most important thing is the team and the three points we got so we’re happy for that.”

Agree with your comments. Watched Spurs (at home) beat West Ham (who were awful). The score was 4 1. Liverpool went to Man City and beat them 4 1. No big deal! But listening to commentators and pundits you’d have thought Harry Kane won the world cup on his own!
