The German international would be a big improvement in Liverpool’s goal

As we reported a week or so ago, Jurgen Klopp is apparently in the market for another number one, after seemingly remaining unconvinced by what he’s seen of Simon Mignolet so far.

The Belgium international has been greatly improved in the past 6 months but is still largely unconvincing, with a number of key aspects of his game still lacking, such as coming for crosses, distribution and communication with his defence.

Previously, it has been reported that Klopp was looking at a couple of young German stars, Loris Karius and Bernd Leno. Both of the young keepers have a great deal of promise, and Klopp could no doubt work wonders.

However, Liverpool need a tried and tested established keeper and, if rumours are to be believed, the 48 year old may well be lining up a move for Barcelona’s Marc-Andre ter Stegen.

The Germany international has seen his playing time with his national team severely limited due to the presence of Manuel Neuer as, perhaps, the best goalkeeper on the planet. And now he is struggling to get back into the Barcelona team, having all but lost his place to Claudio Bravo.

The goalkeeper would no doubt be a big improvement on Mignolet, despite being several years his junior, and would add a great deal to the team from a defensive perspective. Not only that, but ter Stegen is well-known for being extremely competent with his feet – always an added bonus for any goalie.

Should the German star win his place back and nail it down, expect these rumours to die away but in the meantime, any links to top class goalkeepers are likely to be well-received by many Liverpool supporters.

Would the Barca keeper be an improvement on Mignolet? Let us know who you’d prefer below.
