Of all the players we’ve seen show improvements under Jurgen Klopp, few have taken to the German’s full-pelt, 100pmh style quite like Spanish full back Alberto Moreno.

The 23 year old has struggled in the past 12 months, with his form deteriorating under Brendan Rodgers who, as recent ‘revelations’ have claimed, didn’t rate Moreno as a defender and opted instead to start the season with an 18 year old centre back at left back.

The defender himself has been critical of Rodgers and his treatment under the form manager but seems to be exactly the sort of player to excel under Klopp.

And Moreno has spoken to Liverpoolfc.com today, discussing the ‘secret’ to his (and the team’s) defensive improvements. He said: “I think that we understand each other with just a look, and that means it’s not too difficult for us.

“What’s more, I can understand their English a lot better than I can a native English speaker. If you see what I mean, it’s more like ‘my’ kind of English!

“I say my English… maybe not mine, as it’s very bad! But it’s true that I have a good understanding with them and I enjoy playing just as much alongside either one of them.

“As a result, I feel very comfortable when I line up next to either one of them.”

The young Spaniard has shown marked improvement under Klopp, as have the rest of the back line, with the understanding between whichever four start clearly having been worked on. And Moreno believes much of the credit for that must go to the manager himself.

He continued: “We all knew that Klopp was a great manager, and he had done very well.

“But it’s certainly true that he has transmitted a lot of energy in the dressing room and I think we’re now demonstrating that out on the field.

“Every player is playing at 200 per cent and we’re all committed. The gaffer is showing his confidence in every player, he has faith in all of us, and I think that’s important that everyone feels they have the manager’s trust.

“You only have to see us out on the field, where we’re all giving everything and going all-out to win games.”
