The German manager will have found little positive to take from tonight’s game other than the three points

It wasn’t the most inspiring peformance by Liverpool, nor will it go down in history as one that fans will remember down the years and tell their friends ‘I was there..’ but the result was a win and the Reds took all three points to top group and guarantee a place in the knockout stages next year.

Throughout the match we saw perhaps the least animated Jurgen Klopp display since he joined the club too, with even the manager being uninspired by the showing on the field. But he, like most of us, is a pragmatist and as much as the performances are what live long in the memory, he will know that securing qualification is what mattered at this stage.

One thing that many will point to though is another nervy, often poor display in front of the Anfield faithful, again seeing a number of fans leaving before the final whistle and another 90 minutes of certain squad players failing to show why they deserve to be breaking into the first team regularly. The manager will be hoping to avoid a repeat of all of these aspects when Swansea arrive on Sunday.

But, for now, let’s just enjoy the fact that we’ll be seeing more European football at Anfield in the new year.
