The Liverpool manager was disappointed but is keen to find solutions to Liverpool’s issues

Even more than a day on from defeat at St James’ Park, we’re all still wondering what the hell happened up there in the North-east. The Reds had been gradually building up a head of steam, with the defeat to Crystal Palace almost expected, but defeat to Newcastle was not even a remote possibility in the minds of most fans and that may have been the case with many of the players Klopp sent out yesterday too.

Liverpool fell to just their 2nd defeat since the German took over and he was visibly furious at most of his players, with many displaying an attitude and ineptitude in their passing that has slowly been being flushed from the system since Brendan Rodgers’ last days.

But despite so many negatives (including dropping three points) that could be taken from the trip to the North-east on Sunday, Jurgen Klopp is determined that the team must find solutions to ensure days like that become the exception, rather than the rule.

Speaking following the game yesterday (via Liverpoolfc.com), Klopp said: “This was obviously not a really good football game. It was 50 per cent because of Newcastle, 50 per cent because of Liverpool.

“In a situation like Newcastle’s, it’s absolutely okay to play like this because they didn’t do too badly.

“They were playing build-up, they didn’t create chances, but we didn’t create chances either.

“It was an open game but no rhythm from our side; our defending in the last line was good, the middle didn’t defend well together, our midfield pressing was not good, I couldn’t see offensive pressing.

“We always had to run the long way in defence. Dejan, Martin and the two full-backs did a really good job.

“But we were not creative enough so we had no chances and they got the goal and it was something like a Christmas present.

“The second goal I’m not interested in, it’s normal, a counter-attack. We have to take this game and think about why it happened – that’s not the biggest issue in the world.

“I have seen worse games in my life. It was not easy, the situation was not easy. We had to change, not because of the last game against Southampton but because of all the games we have.

“We have to rotate and change players – sometimes it works perfectly and sometimes not, it’s not about the players.

“We have to think if we made something wrong before the game, if we have it’s an easy change. If not, we have to find another reason, that’s all.”

Much like his insistence following an impressive victory that nobody should get too carried away, it’s refreshing that the same level-headedness remains after a disappointing defeat. As angry as the manager is (and we, as fans, are) it is still early days under Klopp and for every Chelsea, Man City and Southampton, we’ll probably get the odd Newcastle away.

What is important though, is that the manager and players work to find a solution to those problems, particularly with many players no doubt playing to secure their futures in the summer.

For now, we look towards Sion on Thursday; a game in which Liverpool can guarantee top-spot and end the group stage on a high.

You are a mug. We lost to Southampton too because Ibe was there. So Firmino too was crap? Benteke make everyone crap he doesn’t make a clever run so all midfielder appear crap playing with him, including Coutinho.
