According to BT Sport and Bundesliga correspondent, Raphael Honigstein, Liverpool are likely to move for Borussia Dortmund central defender, Neven Subotic.
The 27 year old defender has followed Klopp from Mainz 05 to Dortmund, and Honigstein believes the Serbian international is the most likely of Klopp’s ex-players to make the move to Anfield in January.
Speaking to the Sport Review on the subject of Liverpool possibly going after any Dortmund players, Honigstein said: “The obvious one is Subotic simply because he is available and Liverpool need depth.”
The Reds have been linked with a host of Dortmund players over the last couple of years, but the rumour mill has gone into overdrive since the arrival of Klopp, with Marco Reus, Ilkay Gundongan, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Mats Hummels all linked to either a January or summer move.
But all of those players are likely to cost in the region of £30+ million, something which is likely to either put Liverpool off or rule them out if a bidding war begins.
With that in mind, it would certainly make more sense for the club to make a move for a player like Subotic, who is undoubtedly available. As to whether a move will materialize though, is anyone’s guess.
