The Dortmund defender has been linked with a move to Anfield again

Despite keeping a clean sheet on Sunday afternoon, and generally looking much more solid and organised at the back, it’s clear that Liverpool are still in need of defensive reinforcements.

Under Jurgen Klopp Liverpool have kept 4 clean sheets in 10 games, conceding 7 in that time, compared to 13 in the 11 games prior to that. So there can be no doubting that Liverpool have improved defensively in the two months since Klopp took charge.

But he will also have players in mind that he feels can strengthen the Reds back line and, if reports are to be believed, he has his eye on Borussia Dortmund centre back Neven Subotic.

The Serbian international has been at Dortmund since 2008, playing close to 250 games in that time but the 26 year old has struggled to find a place under new manager Thomas Tuchel, despite only signing a new 3-year deal in May 2015.

According to the Metro (for that that’s worth), Klopp will be ‘allowed’ to go for any Dortmund players within Liverpool’s budget range and, while the likes of Mats Hummels may be too expensive, Subotic would be considered a more than acceptable upgrade on what Liverpool currently have.

Having already made the Serbian a signing after moving from Mainz, it’s not beyond the realms of possibility that Klopp could again bring the centre back to a new club, so we’ll have to continue watching this space until the transfer window opens.

Would Subotic be an improvement on what Liverpool currently had, or would he wind up being nothing more than an expensive squad player? Let us know your thoughts on the latest rumours below.
