From bad to worse it is then. Liverpool were poor in parts against West Brom last weekend, but almost redeemed themselves with a late rally that would’ve produced three points with a bit of luck.
Today, an almost too predictable individual error saw Adam Bogdan’s Liverpool career start and end in the space of 90 minutes, and a refereeing oversight saw Watford awarded an early goal that should’ve been chalked off.
As they say though, you make your own luck and Watford did plenty of that today, thoroughly deserving their win against an utterly wretched Liverpool and a group of players who must be seeing their new manager rightly raising questions about many of their futures.
Lacking at both ends and always looking like there’s a gift or two in them, this is a Liverpool team completely lacking identity, leadership and heart for the fight. It’s all well and good winning when the going is good, but when you need players to step up and be counted, Liverpool were severely lacking.
Whatever happens in January, it is clear that Jurgen has a real job ahead of him but he may well now decide to start writing up his Christmas list a bit earlier than expected.
