While everyone at home will be busy tucking into their Christmas dinner, Liverpool have got some serious thinking to do. Their 3-0 defeat to Watford last weekend was abysmal, and if that sort of form continues then the Reds can kiss goodbye to any hopes of a top four finish.

Undoubtedly Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp will now fully realise the task set in front of him and needs additions in January.

In the meantime, Liverpool still have two games to finish off 2015 – a home encounter with league leaders Leicester before travelling to Sam Allardyce’s Sunderland ahead of the new year.

With no fixtures on Christmas Day, Boxing Day usually sees the Premier League reconvene for a full programme as the cornerstone of the Christmas period, and on these days Liverpool have enjoyed inconsistent results. In the early part of this millennium Liverpool won seven of their first ten Boxing Day matches but have struggled since, with only one win from five – away to Burnley last year.

Liverpool really need a result against Claudio Ranieri’s men this Christmas, so perhaps they could look back on the best wins that the Reds have enjoyed during the festive celebrations. Here are Liverpool’ five greatest Christmas wins this millennium.
