The one-cap England defender could be at Anfield as soon as this afternoon

The one-cap England defender has signed on loan for Liverpool this afternoon

Liverpool have completed the signing of Steven Caulker on loan from QPR, until the end of the season.

A number of sources reported the news this morning, and those claims were since picked up by the Liverpool Echo, adding some validity to the news.

The Echo reported that Liverpool were keen to bring in more experienced cover, despite both Mamadou Sakho and Kolo Toure expected to be fit for the visit of Arsenal tomorrow night.

The 24 year old has spent the season on loan at Southampton, following his club’s relegation last season but had struggled to nail down a place since joining, playing just 8 times all season and only 3 times in the Premier League.

Caulker was once a highly-rated young English defender, having impressed in his first full season at Spurs, before moving on to Cardiff City in 2013. He saw his side relegated in 2014, and the defender joined QPR that same summer. Who, unfortunately for Caulker, were relegated 12 months later.

The England defender has had a rough ride over the past few seasons but he has certainly shown clear signs of quality over the years, and has a great deal of experience in the Premier League.

Liverpool were reportedly hopeful that his lack of games at Southampton could see the deal cancelled, and that has seemingly since come to fruition, with the news being announced by the club at around 1pm, via Liverpoolfc.com.

There has been a predictable response from fans throughout the day, with many expressing exasperation of the downgrading in targets as the first 11 days of the January transfer window has progressed.

The Reds initially looked to be chasing Neven Subotic and Joel Matip, but are now having to resort to loaning Caulker. The one-cap England defender was, of course, present in the 6-1 thrashing dished out by Klopp’s side last year, so many of those concerns are still fresh in the memory.

Seems there’s a plan to bring an wide attacking reinforcement player and club doesn’t want to spend money on defender . He’s not that bad what internet reaction suggest . At least better than both central defender we saw at exter game.
