Liverpool target Mario Gotze has added fuel to the growing fire of a potential move to Anfield by claiming that his Bayern future is currently ‘open’.

The 23 year old former Borussia Dortmund midfielder moved to Bayern in 2013, and has gone on to great success, winning two Bundesliga titles, a World Clup Cup and the 2014 World Cup with Germany.

However, this season has seen Gotze’s future become uncertain, and the obvious thing was perhaps to link him with a move to his former boss’s new club – Liverpool.

Regardless of how tenuous those claims may be however, the Germany star has spoken to Bild, saying that his future is currently uncertain. He said:”Everything is still open.

“We will see how things go at the end of the season. I have a contract until June 2017. But of course, it is important how the new coach feels about me. The coach’s plans are decisive in the end.

“So we will just have to wait and see how things pan out. I have not really given my future much thought recently because of my injury, but everything is open as things stand. It all depends on the plans of the club and the new coach.”

If Liverpool were able to conclude a deal of any sort for Gotze, it would have to be in the summer but would certainly be a major coup, regardless of whether the player has lost his place at Bayern for much of this season.

But the player himself appears to have placed the ball firmly back in Liverpool’s court today, claiming that he has received no approach from Jurgen Klopp and will not be pressed further until that happens.

Speaking more recently (via Sky Sports), the Bayern midfielder said: “I can rule out a move to Liverpool this winter.

“I don’t know where the rumours about Klopp and me are coming from.

“I have not heard anything. You should ask Klopp if he wants me at Liverpool. If he wants me, he should approach me.

“I have six nice months ahead of me. It is always annoying when you cannot play and cannot help the team.

“It is only normal that you think about things like that. But you have to look at the positives and build on those.”

Gotze is one of Germany’s star men and is highly sought after across Europe, with most of the continent’s top sides having been linked at one time or another.

However, it now appears that Klopp’s arrival has catapulted Liverpool into an area from where they are – perhaps – now in a position to be of interest to some of Europe’s top talents again. When later pressed again as to whether he’d been in contact with Klopp, Gotze simply said: “I’m under contract here until 2017. We will see what happens.

“No one has contacted me yet.”
