The German international is linked with Anfield move

There’s only so many times Liverpool can be linked with German footballers (or German-based ones) before you start thinking that eventually, something might stick.

In the case of Mario Gotze, this is one of those ‘rumours’ you hope may eventually stick; if there are enough inflated stories about him coming to Anfield, it might actually happen.

Well, in the past 24 hours, the current Bayern Munich star and German international has again been linked with a move to Liverpool. Only this time, Juventus have apparently joined us in the hunt for the attacking player.

According to Calciomercato (via talkSport), Liverpool believe Gotze would come to Anfield (mainly because of Jurgen Klopp), if an offer materialised but could have his head turned by Juventus’ apparent interest.

The Italian outlet claims that Juventus will have money to spend in the summer (which we know as a ‘warchest’) and that the 23 year old is a big target for Italian football’s Old Lady.

The Serie A leaders take on Gotze’s current side in the Champions League next Tuesday, something which may have some bearing on the German’s future. As, should Juve exit at the hands of the German champions, it’s likely one or two star players could leave over the summer, with Paul Pogba most likely.

So, while Juventus will certainly have money to burn, it may not be quite as attractive a prospect as it currently is.

On the other hand, Gotze has had something of a season to forget, and returning to play for the manager that made him the star he is today could well have a certain allure. Particularly if the Reds have a strong finish and can take a trophy or two before the end of the season.

Of course, as with any rumour, it’s all conjecture at the moment and depending on who Bayern appoints to replace the out going Pep Guardiola, the German may well find himself back in favour.
