The Roma star could be the subject of a head-to-head between Liverpool and Man City this summer

According to reports overnight, Liverpool and Manchester City are set to do battle over the summer for Roma’s Argentine youngster, Leandro Paredes.

The 21 year old starlet has impressed on loan to Serie A strugglers, Empoli. The attacking midfielder has scored twice and laid on another in 20 games for his loan club this season and the Reds were linked with the youngster in January.

However, it was understood that Liverpool would hang on until the summer to make their move, allowing the midfielder to finish the season but reports coming from talkSport claim that Premier League title-chasers Manchester City are also keen.

You might wonder why City would be linked with a player, when they are due to appoint a new manager in the summer, but – apparently – Guardiola has Paredes high on his ‘wish list’.

The former Boca Juniors and Chievo youngster signed for Roma in 2014 and has played around half a dozen times for the Rome-based side before being loaned out for the 2015-16 season.

While it’s a long shot, the press would simply love an early summer head-to-head in the transfer market between the former Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich managers. It would seem strange of a manager like Guardiola to look to a 21 year old with very little experience when he’ll apparently have a huge ‘war chest’ to dip into, but we’ll just have to wait and see.
