Icardi has apparently fallen out with his manager, could a move to Anfield now follow?

In years gone by, a January transfer window deadline day was a busy time at Anfield, with plenty of ingoings and outgoings. Of course, that window that sticks in the memory is the year we saw Fernando Torres departed for Chelsea, with Andy Carroll and Luis Suarez arriving.

And while today is highly unlikely to get anywhere near that exciting, there is still a possibility we might see some fairly interesting action, with a host of names linked.

To start us off, the news overnight that Real Madrid winger Denis Cheryshev could be moving to Anfield appears a little wide of the truth, as Spanish football expert Guillem Balague has confirmed that Sevilla are now favourites to sign the winger. Apparently, Liverpool’s interest was barely even tentative, as the club are believed to be looking elsewhere.

If rumours are to be believed, that ‘elsewhere’ could be in the signing of Inter Milan captain Mauro Icardi.

News via Sports Mediaset this morning (via the Metro) claims that the Reds are prepared to match Inter Milan’s asking price of £19 million, as Roberto Mancini is allowing the player to leave after the pair reportedly ‘fell out’.

From the sounds of things, the Inter manager has fallen out with a lot of his players, so it’d be wise to take this with a large pinch of salt after Liverpool were linked with the former Inter captain a few weeks back. A player who had also apparently fallen out with Mancini.

Of course, taking this with a pinch of salt aside, most fans would hardly turn their noses up at Icardi. The 22 year old is a well-regarded young striker and, while not exactly setting Serie A on fire this season, he would be a welcome addition to many top sides.

But perhaps a more likely option for Liverpool would be Javier Hernandez of Bayer Leverkusen.

As we reported over the weekend, the former Manchester United striker has been blazing a trail through the Bundesliga this season, scoring a couple more goals at the weekend to take his season tally to 21.

And reports this morning are indicating that Liverpool are still holding out an interest in the player, as the negotiations for Alex Teixeira appear fairly dead. Until the summer at least.

So, a few interesting rumours to mull over as the hours begin to tick down on deadline day. Check back through the day as we bring you more transfer deadline day updates.

Without a decent striker Liverpool has more chance of being relegated than playing CL next season. The difference between Klopp and Rodgers is that the latter buys players that has no idea of soccer and Klopp has no idea of what he’s doing at Liverpool
