What will Liverpool’s player be doing with the FA Cup weekend?

It’s been quite some time since Liverpool had a whole weekend off and, in some ways, it’s not exactly a point of pride considering the players are off because they got knocked out of the FA Cup.

That said, with the team being in the Capital One Cup final, on the verge of the last 16 of the Europa League and still having plenty of Premier League games left, the FA Cup was probably an acceptable sacrifice and it means a full week’s rest before the second leg against Augsburg next Thursday, before Wembley.

For Jurgen Klopp, it not only means his players will have a rest and be able to recuperate, it also means he’ll get his first weekend off since joining the club over four months ago.

Speaking to Liverpoolfc.com, Klopp explained the situation, with only a handful of players actually getting the full weekend off. He said: “It’s pretty complicated because in the last few weeks the players have had some time off. The coaching staff have had no days off because we always had a team to train with and always a squad for the next game.

“Sometimes our ‘FA Cup squad’ trained or were off and then the ‘Premier League squad’ trained or were off. But we were always here. For sure, there will be a little bit of football but not too much.

“It’s more important for the players that have always been involved, who have played nearly all the matches and always trained and were always here. To have two days off is important.

“But we have a lot of players and they have to train, because they were not always available and had a few things to do to be in their best shape, especially a week before the cup final. Only a few players will have two days off, a few other players will have one day off – training and very important sessions.”
