Can Mignolet build on his heroics against Stoke and clean sheet against West Ham on Saturday night?

The Reds travel to the King Power Stadium this evening to take on Premier League leaders Leicester City. Now, the novelty of saying those words have worn off, and the reality of the situation is that a side that Liverpool last visited when they were bottom of the league are now top and many will rate them as good for a win tonight.

Liverpool, by contrast, have had a very mixed season so far. Even since Jurgen Klopp arrived. But the German is currently assessing his squad and will continue to do so this evening in a game which will see the return of many of the senior players that sat out the FA Cup game on Saturday.

The away side are unlikely to have any recent injury returnees in the squad, despite Philippe Coutinho, Martin Skrtel, Daniel Sturridge and Divock Origi all expected to be available at some point in the next fortnight.

But Klopp will have a selection dilemma (or two) at the back, with Dejan Lovren, Steven Caulker and Brad Smith all impressing at the weekend, while his ‘first choice’ backline have conceded a number of daft goals in recent weeks.

Leicester have no real injury concerns of note at present, and their two main men, Jamie Vardy and Riyad Mahrez should both start against the Reds.

The home side will also be buoyed by the fact that they haven’t lost a game since they last played Liverpool in the league on Boxing Day, and will be confident of overturning the result in that fixture against Klopp’s inconsistent team.

Whatever side Jurgen chooses to field will have their work cut out for them, but a good start will be essential, and the defensive selection will be key to success. Let’s just hope that Simon Mignolet brings that confidence from the Capital One Cup shootout last week with him to Leicester tonight. Even better would be that he has as little to do as he did on Saturday.
