What a performance from the boys today!

There’ll be a large majority of naysayers trying to detract from a huge victory over the bottom club, but there were as many claiming Villa could pull off a big win, as saying we’d win it comfortably.

This was not a display of show-boating or showing off, it was pure and simply a showing of clinicism in front of goal; something we’ve missed most sorely in the absence of Daniel Sturridge.

The striker has missed most of the current season with injury and it says a lot about him that his last 2 starts have seen the Reds score 11 goals. His presence just elevates the rest of the players in a way only Luis Suarez was able to do.

Between Sturridge, Coutinho and Firmino, we have three players that could turn an ordinary season into one to remember. And if Jurgen Klopp is able to withdraw those three between 60-70 minutes of every game, then that’s something that could just well happen.

Garde’s side were poor today, and the Frenchman has a hell of a job to do there. In all truth, with so little fight from his players, he’ll likely be doing that job from a division lower next season but one side playing poorly doesn’t necessarily mean the opposition will win. Liverpool had 9 shots on target and scored with 6 of them. In prior games, we’ve had three times as many on target and scored no more than 1.

Provided that trio can stay fit, the season should – really – start to pick up. And it may well be picking up at the right time. On to the player ratings through the link just below.
