It was a tense night for 45 minutes at Old Trafford but Klopp’s men came through comfortably in the end with an aggregate score of 3-1 against the arch enemy of Manchester United.

As a reward for taking the spoils, and bragging rights, from the tie, Liverpool will now face Borussia Dortmund in the quarter finals.

At the start of the season, the Europa League was never really considered a competition to be won for many Reds but since Jurgen Klopp’s arrival, many have slowly started to turn their attention to a cup that is generally seen as Europe’s poorer relative.

But the quality of opposition left makes it a trophy to be won and the fact that the winner will guarantee Champions League football for next season makes it a trophy that the remaining eight teams will covet.

The tie will take place over two legs, with the first leg on 7th April and the return on 14th April.
