The Germany international has not enjoyed his time at the Nou Camp quite as much as he’d have hoped to

Despite Simon Mignolet signing a new contract at Anfield a couple of months ago, the Belgian stopper’s future is still not guaranteed, after another handful of high-profile errors since signing.

And the man many Liverpool fans want to replace Mignolet, Barcelona’s backup keeper, Marc-Andre Ter Stegen, is pretty much in the same boat. The German goalie has spoken of his future today (via FourFourTwo), he said: “The truth is I’m not really thinking about the future for the time being. I’m focused on tomorrow [against Arsenal], which is really exciting for me.

“It’s a game where I have the opportunity to play again.

“The future is a long way away. But for the time being I’m interested in tomorrow. We want to win, I want to win, that’s it.

“If I can play football I’m not interested in anything else. Of course there is always pressure but I’m always excited about playing. If you can win games like tomorrow’s, you have to enjoy that.

“It’s a question I get asked a lot but I’m really only thinking about tomorrow. I want to do my best and the end of the season is far away. You never know what the situation will be. It’s football, we’ll see how things go.

“The situation is the one we’ve got. Of course you want to play as much as possible, but for now I play in the Champions League and the Copa del Rey and I want to play to my best ability all the time.”

The 23 year old is one of a small handful of German footballers Liverpool have been linked with since Jurgen’s arrival that haven’t played for him but that hopefully wouldn’t be too much of a roadblock should the club look to bring the former Borussia Mönchengladbach star in.

Since joining Barca in 2014, Ter Stegen has played just 4 league games, with over 80% of his appearances in the first team coming in cup and Champions League games. Meaning that the player’s international career has slightly stalled as well, with just 4 caps for Germany since 2012, and just the one since 2014.
