While it’s been a long road back to full fitness for Daniel Sturridge, we’ve seen enough flashes of the player’s quality to know that the striker still has plenty to offer Liverpool and we’d be much worse off without him.

Of course, we’ve yet to see Sturridge hit his true form yet, such is the nature of his recent injury issues that have combined to keep him on the sidelines for the majority of the past two seasons but the 26 year old will start for England tonight on an occasion that will be a real boost to the player and his club.

And club team mate, and England captain for the night, James Milner, believes that Sturridge has returned from injury stronger and hungrier for success. Speaking via Liverpoolfc.com, Milner said: “When you have been out for such a long time, the one thing you see is how long it takes someone to get back up to speed.

“It might take weeks, it might take months. For him it seems to take a warm up and then he is straight out there and he is chopping left and right, his touch is there, his ability in front of goal.

“For me there is no change at all. He’s older and the experiences he has gone through with the injuries have probably made him mentally stronger and hungrier because, when you are frustrated and missing games, you want to get out there.

“When you get back, you want to do everything to stay there.”

Sturridge is appearing for England this evening for the first time in almost two years and, provided everything goes to plan, should be fit and ready to go for Liverpool’s massive home game on Saturday with the visit of Spurs to Anfield.

With 7 goals in his 14 games this season, the striker could yet hit double figures this season and every goal Sturridge scores for Liverpool before the end of May will push him closer to the form we started getting used to seeing from him.
