The Reds have reportedly tabled a bid for the Bayern star

‘Silly season’ as many like to call it is still a few good months away but that hasn’t stopped the flurry of transfer rumours we’ve had involving Liverpool and seemingly every potentially available player under the sun.

But it seems one that won’t go away until he either joins another club or signs a new contract is Mario Gotze of Bayern Munich. The German international still has some time to run on his current contract but has not been the regular in the past two seasons he had been since moving to the German behemoth from Borussia Dortmund.

Inevitably, this means that he’s a target for Liverpool, where the man that made him a star currently plies his trade as manager and, as far as Fichajes.net are concerned, the club has now tabled a bid believed to amount to £31.5 million.

The reports about the attacking player’s future over the weekend, indicated that Bayern had named their price and, if true, these reports would suggest that Liverpool are prepared to match it.

Of course, what hasn’t helped matters is the player himself making it clear that he and Klopp are still in regular contact, when he told ZDF TV: “We are texting now and again.

“He was my coach at Borussia Dortmund, but there is nothing special.”

And that may well be the case, but the press are noted for their ability to make harmless quotes into cold, hardened facts and the fact that Gotze still speaks with his old manager will be taken as a sign that there may be a move to Anfield in the offing.

Having said that, don’t be surprised to see an offer made in the summer, if it becomes clear that Gotze is available as he would certainly be the ‘marquee signing’ Liverpool have craved for several summer transfer windows.
