Liverpool came through the first leg fairly comfortably

Well, hands up if you expected that? Go on, put your hands down now. On paper, nobody expected such a dominating display. Particularly not in the way Liverpool physically controlled the game, as well as in terms of possession and chances.

We watched something about half-way between this and the previous iteration of Liverpool not so long ago, but a lucky United goal saw the Reds go to pieces. Over five months in though, and Jurgen has begun to really work his magic, with a number of players now fully buying into his plans.

Against United, a number of players impressed, at both ends of the field, whilst some previously thought indispensable were able to look below par without it really affecting the outcome.

A second leg still awaits next week, but taking a two goal lead and a clean sheet to Old Trafford is more than most would’ve dared hope and gives the team a real chance of moving into the quarter-finals.

For now, bask in the joy of a comfortable victory over the arch-nemesis.
