Liverpool came through the second leg fairly comfortably in the end

Job done! Was it ever really in doubt?

Well, had you endured the first half the same way most fans did, it was torture, with Liverpool looking intent on letting Van Gaal’s side get a foot in the door that they hadn’t deserved based on the first leg.

But that’s why these affairs are settled over two legs and, in the first half, Liverpool’s players were strolling about like they assumed United would put in the same inept display they did in the first leg.

Thankfully, Coutinho shrugged off the malaise that had enshrouded him in the first 44 minutes to level the score on the night and send the away fans into raptures. That’s when the party really started; there just didn’t seem a way back for United.

The second half was pretty much end-to-end but, in truth, Liverpool were entirely comfortable and allowed the home side more of the ball, knowing it was going to be mostly sideways passes and aimless balls into the box, leaving themselves open to constant counter-attacks.

On the night, Liverpool could’ve taken the win on many occasions but the draw was enough in the end and sees the Reds go into tomorrow’s quarter-final draw with an aggregate score of 3-1.
