Liverpool fans would love to have Gotze in the summer but Klopp says the Reds won’t be looking just at Germany

You’d be hard-pressed to find many players that Liverpool have been linked with in the past 6+ months since Klopp took over as manager that wasn’t German or, at the very least, plied his trade in the Bundesliga (either currently or previously).

It’s to be expected, really, as that is the extent of most of the British press’ imagination when it comes to completely fabricating transfer rumours. And, although the likes of Mario Gotze, Marc-Andre Ter Stegen, Granit Xhaka and Jonas Hector would be very welcome at Anfield, the manager is adamant he will look further afield.

Speaking to German TV station Sport1, Klopp admitted: “We see in Germany that clubs need to be afraid but I think not.

“I do not think that Liverpool has become more interesting for German players through me.”

Although many would very much disagree with Jurgen on that point, it would similarly show a lack of imagination from the club to solely look to Germany in the summer, but with Marko Grujic already signed up and the likes of Lucas Alvario, Piotr Zielinski and Leandro Paredes all strongly linked this week, it shows that the club are actually casting the net further in the search for the right players. A point Klopp makes, as he continued: “If we have an interest in a player we don’t require him because he’s German or plays in Germany. That would be nonsense. We look but not only in the Bundesliga.

“In fact we are really global at the start,” he added. “It is much more important not where the player comes from, but that it is the right player for us.”

Would you be happy with Liverpool bringing in a host of players from the Bundesliga this summer or would you prefer the club to look further afield? Let us know your thoughts below.
