It hasn’t all been good news for Liverpool this week, following that stunning 4-3 victory over Dortmund in the Europa League, as the news this morning has confirmed the worst: Emre Can will probably miss the rest of the season.

The 22 year old was brought off in the final moments on Thursday, with veteran Brazilian midfielder Lucas Leiva replacing him. And today the news has been broken that Can will miss 4-6 weeks with ruptured ankle ligaments.

Considering the recent track-record Liverpool have with players recovering from injury, there may be the slightest chance that the midfielder could still be available for the Europa League final but will defintely not feature for the remainder of the Premier League this season.

Can has already featured in more than 45 games for the Reds this season and has become one of Klopp’s most trusted players so the news will come as a huge blow to the fans and particularly the players team mates.

But the 48 year old manager is keen to play down the bad news, as he told the press this morning (via the Liverpool Echo): “He’s injured, that’s right. It’s with the ligament in the ankle.

“But we will see. In this moment it’s not the best news, but Emre wants to be back as soon as possible.

“We will try everything we can do. I don’t want to give a time. But we will try everything.

“You saw the game against Dortmund, not too bad.

“There’s a chance [he will be back before the end of the season].

“How big? Not too sure.”

Can the team cope in Can’s absence, or will Liverpool struggle without him? Let us know your thoughts below.
