Would you go with Sakho against Dortmund on Thursday? Phil Thompson is having some doubts

A debate over who is Liverpool’s worst centre back has been raging all season amongst Reds fans, with the opinion swaying from Lovren to Sakho, to Skrtel and back again.

At present, Dejan Lovren appears to be the main man. Less capable of the spectacular than either Martin Skrtel or Mamadou Sakho, but the defender does the simple things much better than either. And, after his dodgy first season, he well and truly seems to have established himself as a reliable figure.

This season both Skrtel and Sakho have shown they are still both capable of atrocious displays that will have raised questions in their manager’s mind. Most recently, Skrtel putting in a shocking 45 minutes before the international break and Sakho doing his best ‘Bambi on ice’ impression against Spurs on Saturday evening.

With that in mind, Liverpool legend Phil Thompson believe that Jurgen will have a real dilemma ahead of tomorrow night as to whether Sakho should start or not.

Speaking to Sky Sports ahead of the game, Thompson said: “I’m not really sure what Sakho was doing in the first half against Spurs and he was extremely lucky to go unpunished, which you can’t expect to be the case against this Dortmund side.

“He obviously had a very difficult game and Dejan Lovren did very well to bail him out, but if you leave him out that will wreck his confidence.

“I would say Skrtel is very much in contention to start in Germany, but it’s a very big call for Klopp.”

The odd two or three games aside, Klopp will have no doubt had similar dilemmas many times this season, so it will certainly be interesting to see whether the manager has been having the same reservations as Thommo.

Do you agree with the former Reds man, should Skrtel be pushing Sakho for a start or would you leave the back four unchanged against Dortmund on Thursday evening? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
