After seemingly confirming yesterday that he would indeed be staying at Bayern Munich next season, the transfer saga surrounding Mario Gotze took another twist today as Karl-Heinz Rummenigge questioned the 23 year old’s decision to stay at the German club.

Bayern’s chairman said to Kicker Magazine that Gotze knows the situation after having discussions with the club and he must ask himself whether he will get regular first team football next campaign:

“I had talks with him (Götze) and Ancelotti. Mario knows the thoughts of Bayern. Everything was clearly and seriously explained to Mario.”

“He knows what the club thinks and what the new coach thinks. Mario has to evaluate for himself whether he wants to play constantly.”

Gotze has been linked with Liverpool, Juventus, Chelsea and former club Borussia Dortmund over the past few weeks but after claims and counter claims it has become very difficult to ascertain whether he will in fact stay at Bayern or not. Germany manager Joachim Loew has confirmed that he has spoken to Gotze and he believes the midfielder will stay at the German champions and fight for his place under the new manager. Whether that ends up being the case we will have to see as the story develops over the summer.
