Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that he is an admirer of the talents of Bayern Munich midfielder Mario Gotze.

Klopp helped Gotze develop as a young player and gave him his debut at Borussia Dortmund in 2009 but wasn’t too happy after the player made the decision to leave for Bayern Munich after the Bavarian club triggered his €37million release clause in 2013. He was quoted by the Daily Telegraph as saying:

“It is easy to know I like Mario Gotze. It was not the best day in my life when I heard he was going to Bayern Munich. I have known him since he was 16. That is a long trip but he is still a young player.

I know him better than other players, that is right. That is the only difference to all the other players around.”

Gotze is rumoured to be unhappy at Bayern after a lack of first team football under Pep Guardiola but with the Spaniard leaving for Manchester City, the midfielder hoped that new manager Carlo Ancelotti could guarantee him more playing time. No guarantee has been forthcoming from the new boss according to reports in Germany and with a year left on his contract, Gotze could be allowed to leave for £20million this summer with the Reds and former club Borussia Dortmund both interested in the player.
