RB Leipzig have joined Liverpool, Everton and Borussia Monchengladbach in the race to sign Basel forward Breel Embolo, according to the German newspaper Bild.

The 19 year old was originally linked to the Reds by the same paper earlier this month but it now looks like the Merseyside club will have competition for the Swiss international’s signature from the newly promoted Bundesliga side.

Backed by energy drink giants Red Bull, Leipzig have made their way through Germany’s regional divisions to the top flight in the space of 5 years after finishing second in Bundesliga 2 behind Freiburg last season.

Embolo scored 13 goals and provided 9 assists in 40 games in all competitions last campaign for Swiss side Basel, mostly playing in a wide right or central striker role. He made his senior international debut against the United States for Switzerland in March last year and now has nine caps to his name. Bild believes however Leipzig are ahead of Liverpool in the chase for the player as the young striker is looking for regular first team opportunities; something he might not get in the Premier League.
