Liverpool and Leicester City are looking at bidding for Southampton striker Shane Long, reports the Irish Independent. The 29 year old would fit the high energy style employed by Jurgen Klopp, according to the paper, while he would also prove to be an excellent foil for Jamie Vardy as the Foxes strengthen their squad for the Champions League.

Long had a good campaign last season for the Saints with 13 goals in 34 games in all competitions but the Irish Independent believes Ronald Koeman won’t let the player go for less than £25million.

Although Klopp may like the player, it is unlikely that Liverpool owners Fenway Sports Group would ever sanction a move for a 29 year old with very little resale value, especially for the price that Southampton would want for the player.

The Reds have bought Adam Lallana, Dejan Lovren, Rickie Lambert and Nathaniel Clyne from the Saints in the last two years but Long is unlikely to be the fifth player moving from St Marys to Anfield, although a move to Leicester is certainly not out of the question.
