Liverpool are interested in signing Mahmoud Dahoud from Borussia Monchengladbach, according to the Daily Express. Jurgen Klopp is “hopeful” of persuading the 20 year old to join the Reds rather his former club Borussia Dortmund who are also said to be in the running.

Reports in Poland and Italy have suggested that Liverpool were close to sealing a move for Udinese midfielder Piotr Zielinski but it looks as though these reports were wide of the mark with the Express believing that Dahoud is Klopp’s top priority with the Polish international being the backup plan if they can’t sign the Gladbach midfielder.

Dahoud has had an excellent first season playing in the Bundesliga with 5 goals and 8 assists in 41 appearances last campaign, helping Gladbach to finish fourth in the table with 55 points qualifying for the Champions League for the second season in the row. Whether he will want to join a club who aren’t in Europe at allĀ is open to debate.
