Liverpool have missed out on the signing of Lyon striker Myziane Maolida after the forward signed his first professional contract with the Ligue One side. According to France Football, the Reds and Manchester United had both scouted the player but Maolida will now be staying in France after committing to a three year deal.

The 17 year old has been on the club’s book since joining from Boulogne-Billancourt in 2014 and has impressed the youth coaches at Lyon enough to earn a new contract.

Maolida has played for France at Under 16 and Under 17 levels. For the Under 16s, he has appeared 7 times, scoring 4 goals while for the Under 17s, he has made 4 appearances so far, scoring once in a 1-0 win over Greece.

The Reds have been tracking a number of young players in France with the latest being Lorient’s full back Raphael Guerreiro who it is believed the club have had a bid rejected for.
