Liverpool are interested in Real Madrid midfielder Lucas Silva, according to calciomercato.com. AC Milan are said to be in pole position for the 23 year old’s signature but the Reds are also monitoring the player.

Milan vice president Adriano Galliani was in Madrid to meet Real president Florentino Perez about a move for Silva, in addition to Mateo Kovacic. Silva was bought by Real for £10million from Cruzeiro in January last year but failed to make an impression at the Bernabeu.

He was sent out on loan to Marseille at the start of the season but with French club struggling in Ligue One, it is unlikely that the Brazilian will be returning there next season.

Galliani is also seeking to get the player on loan or to purchase the player with a buy back option similar to Real’s deal with Juventus for Alvaro Morata. One issue is that Silva does not have an EU passport and a work permit may be a problem so a return to his former club Cruzeiro is also an option for the player.

Silva generally plays as a holding midfielder and has played 33 times this season, although he has often been used as a substitute.
