Roma defender Antonio Rudiger has told German newspaper WAZ that although he is happy to stay at the Italian club, he does not know what the future holds.

The German international has been linked with moves to Liverpool and Chelsea in the Italian press after Roma sporting director Walter Sabatini described the player as “replaceable.” Roma will make Rudiger’s move from Stuttgart permanent this summer for £7million but there is a a possibility that the club will look to immediately sell on the player for a profit so they can fund moves for other players. When asked about his future, the 23 year old replied:

“My future? I am currently a Roma player, I’m happy at this club but you never know what can happen in football. Maybe the same club [Roma] can think of something else or something can happen after Euro 2016.”

The centre back was then asked about links to Chelsea:

“Chelsea? This is talk I’ve felt for three years. I repeat, in Rome I am happy.”

Rudiger has been a mainstay of the Italian club’s defence last season, appearing 37 times and scoring 2 goals. He has been named in Germany’s squad for the European Championships in France by manager Joachim Loew and has nine caps to date after making his debut against Poland in 2014.
