Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy’s decision to stay at the Foxes could lead to another transfer chase hotting up, according to O Jogo. The Portuguese newspaper believe that Arsenal will switch their attention from the England international to Sporting Lisbon’s Islam Slimani.

The Gunners look set to join Liverpool, Tottenham, Lazio and Atletico Madrid in pursuing the Algerian international who had an outstanding season playing for Sporting in the Portuguese Primeira Liga. The 28 year old scored 31 goals in 46 appearances in all competitions last campaign as Sporting were narrowly pipped by their city rivals Benfica to the league title.

Although a regular scorer for his country with 23 goals coming from 43 caps, his goalscoring record at club level has been less impressive. Last season was the first time that Slimani broke the 20 goal mark in his career, after scoring 10 and 15 goals in his previous two seasons with Sporting. Strikers do tend to peak in their late 20s though and it may be the case that like Vardy, Slimani has needed a longer period to develop his all round game.
