Chelsea have edged ahead of Liverpool, Wolsfburg, AC Milan and Inter Milan in the hunt for Porto midfielder Nacine Brahimi, according to the the Portuguese newspaper O Jogo.

O Jogo believe that the Blues are in negotiations with the Portuguese side over a €30million (£23.5m) transfer with talks set be concluded in the next few days. A complication in the deal is  that 50% of the player’s sporting rights are owned by a third party and they will need to bought out before any transfer can take place.

Brahimi will be first of a number of departures from Porto this summer as they failed to reach the Champions League after finishing third behind champions Benfica and Sporting Lisbon in the Primeira Liga. If they are to play in Europa League next season they are required to meet their obligations to UEFA’s Financial Fair Play rules, and they will need to sell players in order to comply with regulations.
